PUNE: According to the civic organization, there were 12 confirmed cases of dengue in July, 92 suspected cases, and one confirmed chikungunya illness. However, the city's private hospitals have reported seeing more patients.

Private doctors have said that with changing times, the government must consider multiple factors to report a dengue case or death, including clinical presentations and not just stick to one specific test. Non-Elisa tests are often taken when the patient has reported symptoms for two to three days, while an Elisa test would confirm positivity only seven to eight days after the symptoms set in.
Dr Sujay Patil, senior consultant of emergency medicine at Ruby Hall Clinic, said: "At our hospital, we are focusing on platelet count as many patients are coming in with a drop in platelets along with symptoms such as mild fever, rash, nausea, diarrhoea, and muscle pain. Nearly 30%-40% patients visiting OPD & emergency departments nowadays have similar complaints."
We are seeing at least 8 to 9 walk-in cases of this kind of [water-borne sickness], and the majority are working people, according to Dr. Akshay Dhamne, consultant at DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital.
