Astronomers are usually drawn to their past.
A moving image of Earth and the moon was acquired by the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft, which has been investigating Mars from above for two decades.
Jorge Hernández Bernal, a planetary scientist working on the orbiter's mission, said in a statement that in these straightforward photographs from Mars Express, Earth is represented by the size of an ant when viewed from a distance of 100 meters, and we are all contained therein. "Despite the fact that we have seen images like these before, it is still sobering to pause and realize that there is no planet B; we must take care of the pale blue dot."
